Real Life Getting Me Down

Nothing horrific has happened- no deaths, no accidents, nothing bad.

I'm just not feeling it.

Every day for the past week or so it takes SO MUCH out of me to get just 1,000 words transcribed. I daydream, play games online, chat on twitter, and do various mindless activities. I haven't even blogged for a whole week, and I know its because the words aren't coming. Its difficult to make myself type this now, but I want to because you, my readers, are wondering what the hell happened to me. Or not, but I'm pretending you guys are concerned.

I'm guessing I didn't take a big enough break between my pre first draft in longhand to transcribing my WIP to my MacBook. I only read one book (which was amazing) before starting to type up the words. That may or may not be the culprit, or it could be the late nights of game playing, or just plain restlessness. I'm worried I may kill my muse if I work her too hard, but I don't want to give up.

I think I need a vacation. I don't work, so I mean I just wanna go to a different location other than my hometown. A Writers Retreat, if you will, even if its just me. Even if I don't actually get much writing done, I think the change of scenery and pace will really help me out.

But for now, I sit at my desk, doing this:

Photobucket
@WritingSpirit on Twitter just posted this, which has made me feel slightly better in leaving my WIP for a bit: The more you relax and enjoy life, the more focused and productive you are when you write.

  1. I've done Nothing for almost two weeks. Part of it's my computer dying a,d the replacement taking forever, but if I hadn't been so disspirited before that, I would have worked around it. My phone keyboard's tiny, but I can write blog comments so I should be able to write blog enteries too...

So, yeah, I get the feeling of bleh. And it sounds like you're currently dealing with it beer than I am. ::hugs:: and like that kitten dangling from the limb says, hang in there.

Somestimes the brain needs a rest. Remember that it's only a GOAL, not a mandate--you don't have to get to 1,000 words every day. If you're not feeling it, you're not feeling it. Sometimes it's better to take a day or two off and not force it and then come back to it than go RAH RAH RAH WORD COUNT NOVEL NEED TO PUBLISH NEED TO FINISH WRITE GOAL AAARRRRGGGHHH!!

...Ahem. Sorry. I think that's just me.

Sometimes the best way to beat the dreaded BRICKWALL is to step back from it from a few days. Then hen you're nice and rested, roll bnack up to the BRICKWALL with a bulldozer and knock the MFer down, :-)

  3. ROFL. You guys are awesome. You're so right, I know I'm beating myself up for not dragging my broke down self over that wall, instead of just letting myself recover from writing the whole damn draft by hand.

While I'm recuperating, I'll be shopping for my bulldozer ^_^

Just wanted to say that I'm sorry you're feeling "meh" - as the others have said - take it easy and find something else to do - you'll come back to it reenergized. Even our passions can become drudgery if they're forced. Hope you feel better than "meh" very soon :-)

I spent five months writing like a fiend. Every night, I'd sit down and work for five or six hours, forgoing everything else in my life. I couldn't the words out fast enough. Then the drought came, along with a crisis of faith in the story. I barely wrote 2000 words in six weeks. I ignored my WIP and re-emerged in the world. Now, I am happily writing again. Sometimes, you just need a break, or an inspiration.
